Welcome to episode 179 of The PE Umbrella podcast, the ONLY dedicated Primary PE Podcast in the world!
Joining me Under the Umbrella this week for a roundtable discussion are three all-star former guests of the show in the shape of Andy Vasily, Jorge Rodriguez and Zack Smith. Individually, they were part of incredible episodes of The PE Umbrella podcast and if you haven’t heard any of them the first time around, I highly recommend that you go back and do so.
Andy Vasily – Episode 59
Zack Smith – Episode 97
Unlike the usual format of The PE Umbrella podcast, in which I seek to draw out personal stories, tips and advice, this particular episode centred around one simple statement:
“The Pedagogy behind creating Meaningful Experiences in PE”
My starting point was to reverse engineer this statement and ask all three what we, or they, actually mean by ‘Meaningful’ experiences in PE. What is a meaningful experience? Can it be meaningful without students knowing? How do we measure if it is meaningful?
Once we ironed out all of the creases, we took a leap into suggesting some pedagogical approaches and suggestions as to how we can try to help manufacture these meaningful PE experiences in our own settings for our own students.
As I fully expected, we dived down many rabbit holes and veered on several tangents, but all very worthwhile I can assure you of that!
If you haven’t had the chance to do so, you simply must check out Andy’s Run Your Life Podcast and Jorge’s Global PhysEd Voxcast. As you will be able to tell from this episode, these guys are some of the most thoughtful, genuine and deepest thinkers in the education space that I know and I leave every conversation with them feeling motivated and inspired!
So what are you waiting for? Come on over and join us Under the PE Umbrella.
