“I try and teach the individual and not the subject”
“I teach the children, not what’s written on the plan, and I feel we get better results at the end of it…”
Welcome to episode 105 of The PE Umbrella Podcast, the only primary and elementary PE podcast in the world as we talk ALL things PhysEd.
Today, I am fired up to welcome a good friend and truly outstanding teacher and coach to the show, Stuart Owen. Boasting a number of years of teaching experience, running his own soccer school and founding Sport Diddy, Stuart is the epitome of a calm, controlled and intelligent leader.
Such was the in-depth nature of our discussion, I have decided to present you this interview in two parts. Part one features discussion centred around building relationships, creating a good learning environment, the current state of primary PE and what we should be doing as well as what secondary school PE ready looks like.
How would you describe yourself as a teacher? [03:04]
How do you begin fostering positive relationships? [04:58]
What does a good learning environment look like? [09:59]
What is your favourite EVER warm up? [14:59]
Is Primary PE good enough? What should our focus be? [31:01]
What does secondary school ready look like for PE [48:02]
