What I Learned: Play and Freedom are so important. Kurt has developed a love of physical activity over a life time and it became obvious to me that this was shaped for the most part by his upbringing. He had limited (if any) television and screen time growing up and was always on the move. In the fast paced world of modern life with technology and screens at the forefront, children are becoming ever more sedentary. It is absolutely vital to raise awareness in children of some of these simple bodyweight exercises that they could be doing at home, and schools could perhaps introduce these at a younger age in schools. After all, the majority of these exercises are ‘functional’, serving as training for movements that we would otherwise be doing on a daily basis anyway. It is not that screen time is bad, but too much of it can be. After all, as creatures we were designed as hunters and gatherers, to move and be active. So let’s make the most of our wonderful talents!
