Welcome to episode 172 of The PE Umbrella podcast, the ONLY dedicated Primary PE Podcast in the world!
Joining me Under the Umbrella this week is primary school PE teacher, lead and now a 4-time guest of The PE Umbrella Podcast, Ryan Forwood!
This week we bring you a very special episode in which Ryan and myself explore all things Sport Education. As a pedagogical approach for teaching/delivering a unit of PE, I have to say it has given me some of my proudest moments as a teacher and I wish teachers used it more. It can probably seem daunting at first, after all, it has the word ‘sport’ in its name and that can have negative connotations for teachers in itself. Much of what I have learned and know about Sport Education is from Ryan, which is why he had to be the person on the show during this episode. From the resources he’s shared to the recommended readings he’s told me about to the articles that he’s written himself, Ryan is my twitter go-to for all things Sport Education.
During this episode, I try to dig deep and explain Sport Education in language that all teachers will understand and with the hope that after it has finished, you will want to read up some more and give it a try yourself in the next academic year or when the PE climate permits! Discussion points covered include (but are not limited to):
– What is Sport Education?
– How is it structured?
– What is lesson zero?
– What sports can we use?
– Why should we give it a go?
– Can anybody deliver sport education?
– Gymnastics in sport education!?
So what are you waiting for? Come on over and join us Under the PE Umbrella.
