“This confidence thing is critical, those early years experiences, tipping points, actions and consequences will either make you want to strive and stay, or make them think ‘I don’t think I’ll do that again’ “
Welcome to episode 132 of The PE Umbrella podcast, the only Primary PE podcast in the world, as we talk ALL things Physical Education!
Joining me Under the Umbrella this week is Richard Cheetham MBE.
With numerous years in his field, Richard is currently the leader of coach education, research & development at the University of Winchester. He draws upon and reflects on his role and those he has worked most closely with to drop some serious value bombs under the umbrella today.
We start off by diving into a coaches skillset, a teaching skillset and ask Richard what role they can/should play in primary PE. There was (and continues to be) an interesting debate around this and Richard shares his thoughts. This leads us down various Rabbit holes including the importance of enthusiasm, learning environments, creating continuation desire, moving stories and much much more!
Not only that, but he even takes the time to talk us through his top class-management tip and favourite warm-up!
The amazing Skoda Fabia video that Richard references in this episode is below too, give it a watch and see what you notice!
If you don’t own a notepad, it will be worth investing in one just for this episode, trust me!
So what are you waiting for? Come on over and join us Under the PE Umbrella.
