Welcome to The PE Umbrella Podcast, the ONLY Primary & Elementary PE podcast in the world!
After a recent Twitter poll about what you would like to hear on the show, the PE Umbrella community voted in favour of more resources explained! So ask and you shall receive as today I bring you an episode talking you through a very simple, yet effective activity that I call cone orienteering. Before we go any further, I encourage you to grab the PDF by clicking on the link below or visiting the resources page HERE
In the episode I will be talking you through the setup, the progressions and the links to the Green Umbrella (Cognitive) and Red Umbrella (Social) that this activity really brings out in the students. The beauty is also in its simplicity. It can be played both indoor and outdoor and all that you really need are marker cones/rubber spots to set it up.
I have used the activity as a part of a longer lesson with much success, working with students in KS1 & KS2 alike, there is also no reason it can’t be used for Middle/High school too with perhaps some minor tweaks. I talk you through the activity in terms of layers, starting with layer one and building up to layer 4 (a more advanced version). I encourage you to use Layer one as base camp but then move through according to how your students meet the challenges.
Finally, I would love to hear all about your own variations or see pictures of you playing this game in action, So tweet me @ryansporting or post on The PE Umbrella FB Community by joining HERE
