Welcome to The PE Umbrella Podcast, the ONLY Primary & Elementary PE podcast in the world!
Episode 110 seeks to piggyback on 109 and continue bringing you some awesome actionable content that you can use in your PE lessons. A previous poll of what you all want to hear suggested more ideas and resources so here we are!
As lots of you may be aware, my career path into teaching first began way back in University while studying a degree in Sports Development and PE. During this time, after completing a number of football coaching badges I took the plunge to travel to the USA for a Summer to coach football for UKElite soccer. During my time training there, I learned an absolute wealth of games and activity ideas that have always stuck with me right up until this day. These games and activities have been tinkered, honed and adapted to suit many a class over the years and are ALWAYS a huge hit when I deliver them in my lessons.
In the episode, I will be talking through 2 of my all time favourite games from my coaching time in the USA and explain exactly how they are played. Not only that, I’ll walk through the setup, progressions, key teaching points and which Umbrella focus they are best geared towards. Trust me when I say these games are just incredible, so much so that I’ve used them as ‘main’ activities within my session and also as quick warm-ups with older classes. I have delivered them to children in KS1 right through to High School age, showing just how versatile and fun they are to play, with minor tweaks to differentiate where required! It is entirely up to you, the teacher, what your umbrella focus for this activity is, but you can quite easily draw out discussion points from the Blue (physical), Green (cognitive), Red (communication) or the Purple (affective). So what are you waiting for? Come and give both of these amazing activities a try with your class this week! If you do, then please leave me some feedback by tweeting me (@thepeumbrella) or emailing me at email@example.com.
