“The primitive part of your brain is 5x stronger than the thinking brain, this is why Common sense isn’t always common practice”
Hello and welcome to episode 47 of the ONLY Primary and Elementary Physed Podcast in the world, The PE Umbrella!
As of late, the interview band wagon has been rolling on and this week you are in for a real treat in this extra special episode. For episode 47 I am joined Under the Umbrella by Professor Damian Hughes. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Damian, he is the author of several best selling books on Amazon including ‘Liquid Thinking‘ ‘Liquid Leadership‘ and ‘The Five Steps To A Winning Mindset‘ to name but a few. On top of this, Damian has worked as a change management consultant and sport psychologist for Sale Sharks, West Bromwich Albion FC, France Rugby League, Warrington Wolves and the England & GB Rugby teams too! Check out the videos below to see Damian in action!
Unlike past interview episodes, we delve into Damian’s expertise and find salient links with Physical Education and discuss pressing issues about mindset, goals and visualisation techniques.
How much praise is too much?
How important is goal setting?
Should we rehearse visualisation techniques with our class?
If it’s good enough for athletes and high performers across sport and the wider world, then surely it’s good enough for our children?
At this point, I would often take a moment to outline what my big take away from the episode is. However, there are simply far too many things to note down and simply choosing one would not be fair! My biggest piece of advice is this…
Find somewhere comfortable to sit, grab a note pad and pen, put on your headphones and prepare to be inspired by the words of Professor Damian Hughes! I’d love to hear what your big take aways are from this interview so please tweet me @ryansporting or email me ‘firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to hearing from you!
