Year 3/4 Throwing, Catching & Striking Scheme of Work
This comprehensive 52-page e-book PDF package contains six detailed lesson plans for teaching a unit of work based on Throwing, Catching and Striking to year 3/4 students in a Primary/Elementary School setting. It is the perfect continuation for learning the key skills needed for striking and fielding activities and builds up to playing modified versions of some wonderful games, giving students the opportunity to use rules, tactics and experience using the skills they learn in game situations.
Each lesson plan directs you to some carefully explained game cards that show you how an activity is setup, how it is played, how it can be made easier/harder to extend or scaffold your students learning, and what equipment you will need to play it. Furthermore, it tells you what the key teaching points are for that particular activity!
As with all PE Umbrella Schemes of work, each activity has suggestions for an ‘Umbrella Focus’ guiding you in how it links to the development of the Physical (Blue Umbrella), Cognitive (Green Umbrella), Social (Red Umbrella) and Affective (Purple Umbrella) domain. Using this framework, the activities and sessions have great longevity as the Learning objective can be focused around the development within a different domain of learning each time you use it or you can simply touch upon multiple within a lesson.
Every session in this pack is focused on the Blue Umbrella of Physical Development. However, There is a lesson plan template you can use to piece together your own learning journey for your class if you don’t want to follow the pre-set sessions. The areas covered in this scheme of work include:
- Catching (below and Overhead)
- Throwing (overarm and underarm)
- Striking (with hand and a racket)
- Playing modified striking & fielding games
