“This is the best experience of their Primary School life!”
Hello again and welcome back to The PE Umbrella. It is great to have you with us once again for a ‘knowledge bomb’ packed episode.
I chat with Simon Blower, a former primary school teacher, deputy headteacher and now co-founder of Pobble. We delve into his experience to chat ALL things Primary PE including his top tips, favourite resources, how physical activity impacts on attainment and how it is used to enrich Pobble writing days!
Simon is full of amazing advice that is sure to have YOU fired up to try in YOUR school! Be sure to visit the Pobble website to check out their wonderful work and to find out how you can send your children along to a ‘Literacy through Sport’ day. So what are you waiting for? Click play right here or subscribe to the PE Umbrella on iTunes to listen at your own leisure whenever you choose.
What I Learned: Demonstrations are key. It is such an important aspect of any PE lesson as you seek to introduce new concepts. Model the standard and expectations of the skill or activity you wish to see, giving the children a clear framework to follow. Do this more than once and show them GOOD and BAD examples. Allow the children to tell you which one is better and explain why. Use children in your class to demonstrate (they love this) and never be afraid to make mistakes yourself. This might just provide comfort for some children and allow them to see that it is ok to make mistakes. These mistakes are the foundations that any future successes are built upon.
