“The students know that when music is playing, they’re active, and when it stops they’re listening…”
Hello and welcome to The PE Umbrella Podcast episode 62, and as always, thank you for giving up your time to join me on the ONLY Primary and Elementary Physed Podcast in the world! Joining me Under the Umbrella this week is K-5 Elementary PE teacher Pete Charrette. As a 2009 GAHPERD Elementary PE Teacher of the Year with 29 years of teaching experience, Pete has plenty of knowledge to draw upon when sharing his top resources and class management tips with you!
Known in some online circles as Cap’n Pete, he is also the creator of some 450+ Physed resources that can be found on ‘Teachers Pay Teachers’ that are sure to be a great help to many PE teachers across the globe!
What I Learned: It doesn’t matter how many years you have been in the game, you never stop learning. I love the willingness that Pete has to adapt his teaching and try new things. He talks about his eagerness to delve into a TGFU unit of work in the new year which is something he is more unfamiliar with! We preach to our students the importance of being lifelong learners and it is so important to practice what you preach, in this case, Pete is doing just that!
Do something that scares you regularly…trying something new out with your teaching is scary for anybody, but also exciting. It is likely to be well outside your comfort zone but as we all know, it is outside of your comfort zone that all of the magic in teaching (and life) truly happens!
