“Leo’s method is to run directly at his opponent, and use a simple change of pace and direction”
Hello PE Umbrella community!
As another successful term draws to a close, I can reflect and acknowledge how grateful I am to have THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD! I have taught PE to over 300 primary children and hopefully inspired them for at least a small part of their school PE journey! There have been ups, there have been downs, but as we all know, the downs are only temporary and are essential steps to becoming a better practitioner. These ‘failures’ for want of a better term, are the building blocks on which we stand to progress forward.
It has become clear to me over recent weeks and through my own twitter poll that a huge want of many of you out there is planning, activities and inspiration for lessons and activities that YOU can deliver to your children. I have taken that on board and this week, yet again, i’m bringing you a MUST HAVE activity for YOUR PE locker! I was fortunate enough to be teaching a football unit of work this half term and I revisited one of my trusted dribbling activities early on in this block of work. I have named this activity ‘Cone to Cone’ and the reasons for this will become clear once you download it! It really is so much fun and has a number progressions that are easily added and equally challenging. I guess, another amazing benefit, is the fact it is so versatile and can be adapted to a number of other sports too!
I first stumbled upon this activity whilst coaching in The United States of America for UKElite soccer back in 2008 and it has since become a staple of my teaching/coaching. I have incorporated teaching points from the best dribbler in the world ‘Lionel Messi’, from the video below and have adapted, tweaked and refined this activity over the years so it really is one of those that I COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT! So, listen to this weeks episode of The PE Umbrella at your own leisure to hear all about this incredible PE activity and simply click on the button below for your FREE pdf copy!
Be sure to subscribe to The PE Umbrella on iTunes or Stitcher radio by following the links above or below. I hope that you find this activity as useful as I have done over the years and as always, please get in touch if you use it yourself and let me know how it goes! Have a fantastic week and i’ll catch you next time ‘Under the Umbrella’
This is a version of the video I discuss in the podcast. A young Lionel Messi discusses how to beat and unbalance opponents!
