Hello PE Umbrella Community and welcome to episode twenty one of the PE Umbrella Podcast.

In this episode of The PE Umbrella, I am joined by Rob Wilkinson.  Rob is the Director of ‘Moving Matters’, a London based company who are responsible for delivering high quality PE to over 40 primary schools across the city.  As well as sharing his top tips, advice and resources, we talk about the inspiration behind Moving Matters through research conducted in a document named ‘Designed to Move’.  This document holds stark truths about the possible future pathways for our children if we don’t act on the current ‘inactivity’ crisis now.  Moving really does Matter.

What I Learned: 

1. Keep it simple, or as Rob says, use a ‘drip feed’ approach.  Don’t overwhelm the children with all of your instructions at once.  Take the time to slow down your delivery and introduce a task slowly, giving you (the teacher) a chance to stand back and observe the understanding before moving on.
2. Use activities that are transferable across sports.  Rob loves the use of ‘gates’ that can add colour, pathways and avenues for children to explore.  Simple yet effective.  For another transferable activity see my ‘Ultimate Primary PE Activity’ podcast.
