“One thing that we have to learn to do also (as teachers) is back off…”
“It’s so important for the students to learn simple strategies to self regulate, and then use them in all aspects of their lives…”
Welcome to episode 120 of The PE Umbrella Podcast, the only Primary PE podcast in the world, as we talk ALL things Physical Education.
In this episode, I am delighted to welcome Jorge Rodriguez back to the show for is a truly excellent PhysEd discussion. Not only is Jorge a rockstar podcast host himself on the amazing Global PhysEd Voxcast, but he is an intelligent, thoughtful and articulate educator, who through social circles, I have learned so much from. If you missed him on The PE Umbrella podcast first time round, head over and listen HERE!
During this episode, I dive into the crazy year of changes that Jorge has experienced, culminating in him moving countries to Saudi Arabia and now teaching alongside some incredible educators at KAUST school! You can catch two of his fellow PE teachers on previous PE Umbrella episodes too (Andy Vasily & Zack Smith)
There are some real knowledge bombs shared by Jorge, not least about he had to begin building relationships with his new students from the ground up and the huge cultural shift that he experienced. He shares some incredible strategies to help manage unwanted behaviours and makes links between how the way you feel as a teacher can give you a clue as to how to best respond to any given child.
It is hard to pinpoint any particular part of this episode as stand out as Jorge is on his A-game throughout and really seeks to explain, educate and help us understand the reasoning behind his teaching and pedagogy. There is so much to learn here and I can’t wait for you to jump under the umbrella with us and take a listen!
