Welcome to episode 168 of The PE Umbrella podcast, the ONLY dedicated Primary PE Podcast in the world!
Joining me Under the Umbrella this week is the managing director of Primary Sports UK and the hugely popular online CPD platform and FREE magazine Healthy Futures, Tom Leeming. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Tom in person on several occasions after he approached me to write an article for Healthy Futures late last year. What stands out to me is Tom’s undoubted passion for making a positive difference to the lives of the many teachers and coaches he works with. He has worked tirelessly this year to bring Healthy Futures online and provide tremendous CPD opportunities to aspiring teachers, coaches and PE leads, many of which have been a game-changer during the Covid-19 lockdown. It has certainly become more apparent to me during this time that the future of ‘in-house’ CPD events could be soon a thing of the past as people are seeing results just as good from online courses, webinars and (dare I say it) podcasts!
During this episode, we spoke about Tom’s PE teaching experience in school to draw upon tips, tricks and advice that you can takeaway. That means you can expect answers to the following questions:
– What currently excites you about PE?
– What misconceptions of Primary PE would you banish to room 101 given the chance?
– What is your perfect primary PE lesson recipe?
– What was the worst PE lesson you ever taught and why?
All of that plus top class-management tips, favourite warm-up games and behaviour management advice!
We then take time to dig a little deeper into Healthy Futures, from the initial creation of the magazine to a growing online community of practitioners. Tom even tells us what his favourite course is so far!
