“I think what you have to be good at, is pulling ideas from your children…”
Welcome to episode 117 of The PE Umbrella Podcast, the only Primary PE podcast in the world, as we talk ALL things Physical Education.
For our first episode of 2019 we have an absolute cracker lined up as I am joined by Gymnastics Queen, Mrs Gemma Coles. As the founder of Head Over Heels Gymnastics, Gemma has years of coaching experience that she has taken into the world of Primary PE, and has an absolute wealth of knowledge to draw upon.
I have often found that Gymnastics is a real ‘frightener’ of a word when mentioned to Primary teachers.
‘I can’t do it’
‘I don’t know where to start’
‘I’m worried a child will get hurt’
These are all phrases that are commonplace in the staffroom when it comes to even thinking about teaching this subject area. Well, fear no more!
During this episode, Gemma and I really get to the nitty-gritty of what it means to teach primary level gymnastics. What it should look like, how to address health and safety concerns, whether you have to be an expert and how to overcome space and equipment issues. It’s all right here! I would often timestamp episodes, but I’ve given that a miss this week as I absolutely insist you listen to this full interview.
Get that pad and pen ready…Knowledge Bombs are incoming!
