“We typically try and stay away from anything in which one kid can compare themselves to another…”
“Those environments we create, and for us environment is everything, is a place where the emphasis is on what they can do to level up…”
Welcome to episode 101 of The PE Umbrella Podcast, the only primary and elementary PE podcast in the world. I am excited to embark on The PE Umbrella journey post 100 episodes and look forward to welcoming in the next chapter of the show!
To kick us off on this next leg, I am joined Under the Umbrella by Craig Harrison Phd to talk about the Physical and Psychological journey of our children as they progress through physical education in schools. A particular focus of our discussion revolves around the nurturing the fundamental skills in our students by focusing on the three C’s…
-
Commitment
-
Control
-
Confidence
As is becoming the norm for the show, this was a semi structured interview that led down many rabbit holes around this topic, focusing heavily on the ‘confidence’ strand of the three C’s and how we can develop this in our youngsters. Compare and despair…Students always try to measure themselves up against others, so how can we stop that happening? Should we stop it?
Throughout the interview, I ask Chris how links can be made between his line of work and the Primary PE classroom, helping us to implement strategies in our own teaching. You will for sure need a note pad and pen for this episode so come and jump Under the Umbrella and prepare to learn!
