“Be a calming presence…”
Hello and a warm welcome once more to you, The PE Umbrella Community, to the ONLY Primary and Elementary PE Podcast!
I am excited to bring you episode 44 of the PE Umbrella podcast this week as I am joined Under the Umbrella by Physical Education teacher and experienced presenter Adam Metcalf. Currently teaching K-8th grade, Adam has transitioned through a career as a business account manager to becoming an outstanding Physed teacher in a decision inspired by pursuing his passion and what makes him happy. It was a real joy to hear Adam articulate his thoughts on the many questions I asked and share thoughtful and carefully considered ideas that would benefit the children that we teach.
During this bumper episode, we get stuck into his PE Institute 16 highlights, best uses of tech in the PE classroom, favourite PE activities, top class management tips and SO MUCH MORE!
What I Learned: Start with why! Why are we doing what we are doing? Strive to give children opportunities to experience ‘rare’ moments in their Physical Education in order to make their lives more interesting and memorable. Adam really elaborates on the importance of making things ‘interesting’ for the children we teach in order to increase interest and motivation. This really struck a chord with me as I’m sure it will with you! HAVE FUN – PLAY MORE – GET BETTER – HAVE FUN and so the cycle continues…
